Far West!  Our name describes a point of
departure from the ordinary.  As a purveyor for the
well-traveled lifestyle, Far West is a celebration of
cultural diversity.
First opened in May of 2004,
Far West Trading Company is a furniture, art
and gift shop located in the tiny West Sonoma
County hamlet of Graton.  Proprietors Gary
Hagen and Lou Rosenberger have created a
shopping "experience" for those who appreciate
the well-traveled look.  Asian furniture and art
are complimented by contemporary and
unusual pieces from around the world.  The
offerings of incense, imported teas, Oriental
rugs and throw pillows, as well as items from
India, Africa and other countries enhance the
Trading Company atmosphere.
Asian furniture arrives in Graton from China, Japan and Korea. The Trading Company
concentrates on fine quality antiques and vintage – traditional Asian pieces that are suitable for
the American lifestyle.

The Trading Company's art collection is an evolving mixture of Asian and local Sonoma County
artists. Gary has commented, "There will always be a representation of modern pieces that are
comfortably compatible with the more traditional."  Both Gary and Lou have fostered
relationships with local artists in an effort to recruit them and their art for the Trading Company.
Visit frequently to be sure and see it all.

Far West Trading Company's own TeaBar brand is a collection of the very finest loose-leaf teas, herb
blends, yerba mate and rooibos.  Ask to smell and taste a brewed sample when you're visiting.
Tea is served in a contemporary style at the bar in Graton along with hot and cold tonics.  Plan
to sit a spell because you won't find carry-out at Far West.  Never a ceremony.  No cultural rip-
off.  Tea is demystified and Americanized.  TeaBar serves tea for the rest of us!

Far West Trading Company incense comes from Japan and Korea.  One variety is made of
organic ingredients that produces a lovely aroma with much less smoke of other incenses. You’ll
love its gentle scent.  You will also find a selection of the finest traditional Japanese sandalwood
and aloes wood incense available for the most discriminating customer.  The Korean incense
selection is of surprising quality and value.

There is a changing collection of Japanese textiles including obi and kimono, chenille throws
from Afghanistan, Turkish hats as well as pillows made of kilim and Oriental rugs that will amuse
and delight you. The selection of new Chinese porcelains are handmade, hand-decorated and
glazed.  Most have a wood display stand and/or come in a pretty presentation (gift) box – perfect
for gift giving, and surprisingly affordable. You’ll be thrilled with the collection of old Japanese
blue and white, too.
The objective of Lou and Gary has been to
create an environment that is comfortable
and interesting like a well-appointed home,
thus inspiring their visitors to recreate that
environment with pieces large or small,
Asian or Californian, in their homes.  Since
arriving in Sonoma County, both men have
developed a strong interest in local art and
culture, which they’ve tapped into to create
their home in Bodega Bay. Through a
pleasing combination of their traditional,
contemporary and Asian furniture, and
classic California architecture and art, they
have crafted a sophisticated, casual and
adventurous look for their home.
Far West Trading Company affords these two men a venue to exploit their talent for assembling an
aesthetically pleasing home environment.
